Smart Security Services/ Calgary Nadi FC will be aiming to end its 28-year drought of winning the Battle of the Giants Tournament.
The side last won the BOG title in 1996 when they defeated Tavua 3-1 in the final at Govind Park in Ba. They have won the title five times and were runner-up five times as well.
The Jetsetters have mixed results this season but are always unpredictable at the tournaments. With a history of five titles and five runner-up finishes, Nadi FC’s pedigree in the competition is undeniable.
The side has been boosted with the inclusion of Afghanistan’s Canada-based Ali Ajha Naseri, New Zealand-based Shravan Sharma, and Solomon Islands Junior Rocky.
They also have experienced players like goalkeeper Vererti Dickson who has been a savior for the Jetsetters with his courageous saves under the goalposts in many tournaments.
The Jetsetters have an endearing team with the likes of defenders, Ame Votaniu, Vuniuci Tikomaimereke, Tuiba Batiratu, Vishant Reddy, Afraz Ali, Shaheel Valentine, Ratu Tulivou, Mohammed Ayaman and striker Siotama Kubu to name a few.
Coach Raj Dayal’s tactical acumen will be crucial in navigating their matches. The blend of youth and experience in their squad, alongside their unpredictable nature, makes them a team to watch closely.
Nadi will be up against Labasa, Navua, and Lautoka side. They will take Lautoka side on Friday, July 22 at 3pm and then face Navua on Saturday at 1pm before taking on Labasa in their last pool match on Sunday at 4pm.
