The Fiji Football Association Futsal League southern zone kicked off last Friday at FMF Gymnasium in Suva.
Tailevu Naitasiri kicked start the season on a high note thrashing Northland Tailevu 6-1 while Nasinu defeated Rewa 6-4.
Lami held defending champions Suva to a 1 all draw.
Tailevu Naitasiri coach/player Sushil Singh said it was a good start for the side but hopes the players learn from the mistakes.
“The competition is tough and all the teams are getting used to the code and preparing well for the league title,”
“Despite the win I think we have to learn a lot from our first match and focus on our other big games ahead,”
Singh hopes players will be able to learn off one another in order to better their performance this season.
“They have been playing together but not for the district teams previously but it’s a promising start and they are gelling well so with more matches we should be gelling in well as a team.”
Meanwhile Nasinu started its campaign on a winning note under the guidance of former national and futsal coach Mira Sahib.
The side also included former goalkeeper Epeli Suibuka, district reps Joseph Mishra and Ashok Kumar with Solomon Islanders Marlon Taihoa and Patrick Taroga while Rewa had the services of district reps Setareki Hughes, Tevita Warainivalu and Anish Khem.
Suva with their new signings Filipe Baravilala, Bruce Hughes and Shahil Dave from Rewa failed to spark against the new Lami side which had no big names in the side.
The second round of the competition will be played this evening from 6pm in which Rewa will take on Navua and at 7pm Northland Tailevu and Lami will battle while the last match will see Tailevu Naitasiri take on Nasinu at 8pm. All the matches will be played at FMF Gymnasium in Suva.
