2019 Courts IDC Day One

Ba opened its campaign in the 2019 Courts Inter District Championship (IDC) at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Tavua.

The Men In Black played with a lot of confidence and dictated play in both halves.

Tavua showed some promise towards the end of the match and had some chances to score, but poor finishing in front of goal and some moments of hesitation let them down.

Lanky marksman Sanaila Waqanicakau opened Ba’s account in the 12th minute of play with a clinical finish.

Shazil Ali hit the post and cross-bar twice as the Men In Black led 1-0 at halftime.

Veteran Avinesh Swamy came off the bench and tapped in the second goal in the 75th minute after being neatly set up by Ali.

Ba faces defending champion Lautoka in its next match at 8pm tomorrow while Tavua will meet Labasa at 2pm.

In the second match Nasinu created the first upset after beating Rewa 2-1 in an exciting encounter.

The Tagi Vonolagi coached side looked more hungry to win and looked good both in attack and defence.

After goalless first half, veteran marksman Joseph Mishra managed to sneak in with the opening goal in the 56th minute.

Nasinu lost goalkeeper Josaia Ratu to an injury and his replacement Viliame Sivo played gallantly between the sticks.

Midfielder Luke Savu doubled Nasinu’s lead in the 78th minute with a powerful volley before Kavaia Rawaqa pulled one back the Delta Tigers late into the game.

Nasinu faces Suva in its next match at 4pm tomorrow while Rewa will come up against host Nadi at 6pm.

Star striker Benjamin Totori scored a 89th minute equaliser as defending champion Lautoka came from behind to hold Labasa 1-1 in their first Group A match..

The Babasiga Lions made an impressive start and took the lead in the 11th minute after Ravinesh Karan Singh neatly laid the ball into the path of striker Siotame Kubu to poke the ball into the back of the net.

Labasa led 1-0 at halftime but persistent pressure from the Blues in the second half forced the Northeners to camp in their own territory and launch counter attacks.

An ever hardworking Totori managed to weave his way past the defence and slam in the leveler with just a minute remaining on the clock.

Lautoka was reduced to ten players in injury time after Samuela Drudru was sent off following his second booking.

Lautoka will play Ba in the feature Day 2 match at 8pm tomorrow while Labasa will face Tavua at 2pm.

The final match of Day One ended with host Nadi beating Lincoln Refrigeration Suva side 2-1 with goals from Rusiate Matererenqa and Christopher Kumar.

Christopher Wasasala scored the lone goal for Suva.

Suva will take on Nasinu at 4pm while Nadi will battle Rewa at 6pm tomorrow.

In the senior division matches Lami defeated Dreketi 7-1 while Savusavu won 2-1 against Northland Tailevu.
