The Rewa U16 side thrashed Nasinu 6-1 in the opening round of the Digicel U16 Youth League last Saturday at the Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa.

Neeraj Sharma and Mosese Namumu scored twice while Arush Lal and Avishaan Chand scored a goal each for the Baby Tigers.

Maika Dau pulled one back for the Nasinu side from a free kick.

Rewa Team Director Amish Patel said it was a good start for the team.

“It’s a good start and I am happy the boys played really well after a lapse of nearly one and half years now,”

“Rewa is very much committed to the development of its players and we have some 14-year boys playing and they really did well,”

“I am proud the say some of our U16 players are now part of the main team,”

“Our last year’s goalkeeper Ayush Chand is our main goalkeeper for U19 and also reserve keeper for the senior team which show how committed we are in development,”

Patel said they dedicated the win to Namumu’s dad who died last week.

“We dedicate this win to our goal scorers dad who passed away two days ago but he still came to play and scored two goals,”

Nasinu coach Meli Dogalau said it was not their day.

“We had some difficulties in getting the team train together but it was a lesson learned so we will come back firing in our next game,”

The team will go for a week’s break and will resume next week later.
